Back 2 Nature has acknowledged all of the health implications that chemical ingredients and even some natural ingredients have on our bodies and the oceans reefs. So we have specifically selected a combination of natural ingredients to formulate the perfect recipe for a sunscreen that is healthy for your skin and the oceans.



Country of origin: USA 
We use coated, non-nano zinc larger than 150 nanometers per particle to ensure that it is non-toxic to sea life. It is also better for your skin as it sits on the surface of the skin, rather than smaller particles that can block your pores.
Where does it come from: Zinc oxide is found in the Earth's crust as the natural mineral zincite. It comes in a white, powdery form.
Properties as a sunscreen ingredient: Zinc oxide is a broad-spectrum active ingredient that acts as a physical barrier by blocking and reflecting out UVA, UVB and even UVC rays. It can even act alone as a complete sunblock.
Zinc is also great for your skin for treating acne, aging skin, infections, and it assists in healing wounds and burns.

Where does it come from: Carnauba wax is native to Brazil and is harvested, or collected, from a palm known as the Copernica prunifera, also known as the 'Tree of Life', which only occurs in the northeastern states of Brazil. The wax occurs on the leaves of the palm during dry, hot weather as a natural means of protecting the leaves from the elements.
Properties as a sunscreen ingredient: Carnauba wax is hypoallergenic and acts as an emollient. (Having the quality of softening or soothing the skin.) Carnauba wax has the highest melting point as a vegetable wax. It contributes as creating a high water resistency in the Surf Zinc.

Where does it come from: We use a non-gmo eco certified soy wax which is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated.
Properties as a sunscreen ingredient: Soy wax contributes to the water resistency of the Surf Zinc. It is rich in Vitamin E and also acts as a wonderful moisturizer for your skin.

Where does it come from: Coconut oil is an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts harvested from the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). Properties as a sunscreen & benefits for your skin: Coconut Oil has a natural SPF of 4, which blocks 75% off UV radiation. 75% protection is about 45 minutes of sun exposure. Virgin coconut oil is used as a carrier oil in our sunscreen and naturally has antibacterial, anti-aging and anti fungal properties. Coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer for your skin.

Where does it come from: Shea butter is extracted from the nut of the Karite tree, also called the Shea tree. This tree is endemic to Africa.
Properties as a sunscreen & benefits for your skin: Shea Butter has a natural SPF of 4-6. Shea butter is a natural healer for dry skin, pigmentation and scars. It also has incredible anti-inflammatory properties.

Where does it come from: Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained by pressing the seeds of the castor oil plant (Ricinus communis). Castor is indigenous to the southeastern Mediterranean Basin, Eastern Africa, and India.
Properties as a sunscreen & benefits for your skin: Castor oil has a natural SPF of 5-6. Castor oil also helps in fading scars and pigmentation. It works by moisturizing and nourishing the skin that aids regeneration of the skin cells and helps promote the growth of new skin, which helps to lighten the complexion and reduce the dark spots and pigmentation.

Where does it come from: Pomegranate seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the pomegranate fruit. Pomegranates are native to Iran and the Himalayas of which spread out into the Mediterranean region. Properties as a sunscreen & benefits for your skin: Pomegranate seed oil has a natural SPF of 15. The oil is an excellent source of polyphenols and rich in Vitamin C, which helps fight free radicals.

Where does it come from: Carrot seed oil is derived from the dried seeds of the wild carrot plant (Daucus carota) of the Apiaceae or Umbelliferae family.
Properties as a sunscreen & benefits for your skin: Carrot seed oil has a high SPF of 40.  The benefits of carrot seed oil include antifungal, antibacterial and anticancer qualities, due to the bioflavonoids it contains.

Where does it come from: The natural earth pigments used in our Surf Zinc come from the Kalahari Sands. It essentially is natural earth pigments extracted from minerals in the sand.
